The culture behind a Megazord: Magne Warrior, the forgotten prototype

9 Lug

Welcome back to my blog. So, yesterday I wrote about X1 Mask, one of the prototypes for Super Sentai Sixth Rangers. However, I wonder why so many of them seem to forget that there was already a prototype on Choudenshi Bioman.

For a two-parter, we are introduced to the Magne Warrior, a brainwashed guy who fights against the Biomen. He even expressed some feelings for the Pink Ranger, but was rejected by the Bio Robo, never to be seen or mentioned again.

You see? We have the “brainwashed guy turned good who bonds with the heroes” trope that so many Sixth Rangers have, both Japanese and Americans.

However, it seems like everyone focuses on X1 Mask, getting to the point of having his Ranger Key, when he introduced the concept of a Sixth Ranger way before him.

In fact, considering we’re talking about the series Saban tried to adapt in the ’80s, I wonder if his two-parter would have become “Green with Evil” (well, “Black”), thus relegating “Tommy” as a one-off character.

This article is simply dedicated to him, the unsung prototype who was overshadowed by his successor.

See you, next time, here, on the Empty Blog!
