The culture behind a Megazord: how the Italian dub of Super Megaforce explained the “New Powers”

20 Apr

Welcome back to my blog.

Every fandom has that one thing that it is canon, but I dare you to even try to mention it to a fan.

For Power Rangers, one of the top candidates to be that one thing is Super Megaforce’s New Powers. Not only the Gokaiger footage could have been skipped, avoiding all that “mess” (I’ll write an article like this), but they even used their budget to film new scenes with Sentai suits, budget that could have been used for the Legendary Battle.

Anyway, one of the things fans wanted was at least some bits of explanations. Well, at least the Italian dub has one.

You see, when the scene that introduces the “new modes that have never been seen before on this planet” arrives, Gosei simply tells them “you have unlocked new modes that will enhance your powers”. Basically, they are simply power-ups, like all those modes from Samurai.

This definitely makes sense, because it won’t “ruin” the Power Rangers universe just because … well, just because.

Now, to end the article, I remind you on which Sentai Rangers were used as “new powers”.

NOTE: some of those Rangers can actually be seen during the Legendary Battle, but seeing how poorly it was edited together, I think they just “slipped” into the shot.

Dengeki Sentai Changeman (all five)

Green and Pink Flash

Now, I like how, due to Flashman not having an adaptation, having both Jake and Emma using Green Flash’s powers makes this team “ambiguous” about if the Green Ranger is male or female. I’d like to consider this eventual Green Ranger a girl simply because that would mean having a team with a female Green Ranger.

Red, Blue and Yellow Mask

The Red Ranger is actually and editing “error”. They kept the Changeman Gokai Change, but then showed the monster attacking them. The problem was that, on Gokaiger, the Red Ranger already changed into Red Mask, so all of a sudden Troy has a new mode.

Five Yellow & Five Pink

Five Yellow is used by Gia, but Five Pink actually appears in the Legendary Battle.

Gosei Sentai Dairanger (all five)

Again, due to Gia being the only one to use Kirin Ranger’s powers, we don’t know if that Yellow Ranger is actually female.

Anyway, now I’ll write an article about them, and then I don’t know if and when I’ll return to talk about it.

See you, next time, here, on the Empty Blog!
